1/72 Scale Hasegawa, F-14D VF-213 “Black Lions”
by Jeremy Housdan (Skull

Materials Used
1/72 Scale Hasegawa F-14D VF-2 “Bounty Hunters” kit
Twobobs “Rampant Lions Over Afghanistan” sheet
This is my first-ever Hasegawa Tomcat to build, and early on I never thought the thing would come together! I had some early trouble with the burner cans (I initially wanted to build them open), but after a minor defeat and deciding it wasn’t worth the trouble, I built them closed instead. I think the kit has been exposed to some extreme heat at some point, the starboard engine fairing region has been melted a little on the bottom (from the beavertail all the way around to the elevator) and the beavertail itself was warped considerably. I’m not sure what happened but I think I was able to overcome it J
The kit is done in an overall light ghost grey with a medium grey anti-glare. The model represents the plane after it returned from the mission depicted on the Twobobs sheet (for those who don’t know, this Tomcat was the only one to ever fire it’s gun in anger at a target. In this case, Taliban ground forces). Using smudged pencil lead, I was able to dirty up the gunbarrel so it looks like it’s been fired. Overall the kit wasn’t hard to put together, but I learned a lot of lessons on this kit that I will apply to future Hasegawa builds!
